Attur Bar Association in Attur Taluk, is coming under Salem District in Tamil Nadu. There was only one criminal court, which was disposing cases which are coming under the imprisonment of below two years or fine. This court was established before Independence and the court was assigned as Judicial Second Class Magistrate Court. For the convenience of the Advocates, a Bar Association was established during the year 1960 with two practicing Advocates as its members. In those days many senior Advocates were attending the court having come all the way from Salem. After many years in between 1970 to 1975 there were only 10 advocates as its members. Gradually the members of the Attur Bar Association has gone up to 130.

Now there are four courts viz., Judicial Magistrate Courts(2), District Munsif Court(1) and a Subordinate Judge Court.

The Bar Association is being maintained by the Advocates themselves. It maintains its official relations with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu, which is the highest body to regulate the conduct of the advocates registered under its roll. The Bar Association keeps many Law Books containing Judgments of the Supreme Court of India as well as High Courts. Most of the Books and Racks were donated by the Publics and Advocates. Mr.K.Viswanathan B.A.,B.L., Advocate Salem and a senior citizen of Attur by name Mr.K.Appu Rao have donated sufficiently for the improvement of the Library of the Bar Association. The Library also feeds the Advocates so much to know about the latest judgements of the Superior Courts and to present them with their arguments. The Bar Association has conducted many "Free Legal Aid Camps" in different parts of Attur Taluk in which all the Advocates participated. The above camps were conducted with a view to help the poor people to come out from the Legal Problems.
